  1. Sir on looking dictionary stanch is showing as a variable spelling of staunch.Moreover meaning of staunch is also given as to stop flow of blood. how to identify difference in such case?

  2. Look at the first meaning. And look at context. Almost any time you will find these words used by a power-user of English, stanch is used in the “stopping blood flow” context and staunch in the “steadfast” context. Nuances of usage are as important.
