asseverate – aver and also assert( i suppose they are the same , not sure though???)
RAMBUNCTIOUS – RAUCOUS
ROUTINE – RUT, also ROTE
SCOUNDREL – CUR ( i din get it… found it on the net, this is the slang)
Yes Girish, assert and aver can both work fine here, aver is a little closer in nuance and was te answer I was looking for. Rut and rote both work fine as well, again rut works better.
Cur is a bit archaic, which might explain why it is not so familiar….words like cur and roue and cad and bounder were common turn-of-the-century insults for a person who had little honour, they were the opprobrious terms allowed to a man of refinement (today everyone descends to the same few insults, no imagination 😉 )
And looking stuff up on the net (or in a dictionary) is perfectly fine; I could directly have given the answers but am hoping that my readers will do some research on their own (which would help fix the words in their minds more effectively). If you earn knowledge, it stays with you much better than if it is freely obtained 🙂

As a wise man ( some greek mathematician and philosopher )said and i quote ” Knowledge appears to those who seek it “
