    In the 1st Question, I eliminated option 2 for the sole reason it is written: “are designed”. I thought “were designed ” should be there because we are discussing the past significance of the maps. Though I marked the 4th option, which is also not convincing.
    Also, in the 2nd question, the east was on top for Egypt because of sunrise; how can we infer that due to this, the east was considered a positive direction?
    There is no mention of the east being a positive direction.

    Also, in the 2nd question, it is mentioned Egypt is considered east at the top due to sunrise, how can we link sunrise to positive direction without our external knowledge

    • For Q 1: The misconception is precisely about why maps are designed the way they are today, i.e. facing North – people think is it because of Columbus et al. It is in fact disproved by talking about how they were designed earlier.

      For Q 2: Combine that with what Jeff Brotton says earlier about why West (and North) was not selected in those days and it should make sense.
