I remember reading this story somewhere… perhaps in one of the English textbooks.
And just yesterday, I got ‘The Ruskin Bond Children’s Omnibus’! It’s cool!! 😀
I am loving it!
this story was part of our school text book… 8th 9 th or 10 th that m not sure… i wish our approach to english that time was the way it is now…. would have made a lot of difference if we were taught by people who really took interest in the majesty of the language rather than abiding by the same old indian cliche ‘ doing ur responsibility’
I was lucky enough to have a couple of good textbooks and a couple of good teachers thorough those years – I still remember my 6th standard textbook, which had stories by Asimov, Mark Twain and other comparable authors, a poem by Tolkien, and a selection of myth/fairy tales from Indian, Greek and even Chinese folklore. I still remember learning words like mandarin and dilapidated from that book!
My teachers in 12th too were awesome, they almost convinced me to take up a BA in Lit 🙂 The road not taken….
