Who are the CAT-holics?

The CAT-holic blog is the brain child of two IIM graduates, J and T, under the aegis of our employer IMS Learning Resources Pvt Ltd. We’d like to briefly introduce ourselves below:

J is a graduate of IIT-B and IIM-C and a 13-time 100-percentiler in the CAT (’02, ’08, ’10, ’12, ’14, ’15, ’16, ’17, ’18, ’19, ’20, ’22, ’23). He is also a nationally ranked Scrabble player and cruciverbalist and is fond of solving lateral thinking riddles and crossword puzzles. In his spare time he reads Fantasy and Science Fiction, photographs sunsets and consumes entirely too much caffeine. He teaches Quantitative Aptitude and is also an expert in Vocabulary.

T is an MBA from IIM-L and a standardised test junkie with scores of 750/800 and 1500/1600 on the GMAT and GRE respectively. For the better part of his career he worked at the Academics Dept. of IMS developing courseware for the CAT, GMAT and the GRE and and ended his stint as the head of the department. He currently operates out of the IMS Head Office and spends most of his spare time reading and travelling.

  1. Hi J,

100%ile in CAT 2021 as well? Curious about your sectional and overall scores. Have been following you since I came across your posts in Pagalguy in 2014.

  2. All hail the GOD. I got 97.86, a meagre infront of your mammoth scores, but now when I look back, I honestly admired you for these blog posts than your 100 percentiles. They were driving factor for me, no doubt, but you’re truly an amazing teacher. Today where I stand has been only possible because of you. Thank you for everything, lord Scrabbler.

  3. Hello J,

How would you rate CAT 2022 experience, if you attempted it. Another 100%ile in the golden armour this time again? 🙂

Been missing your blog posts for an year now. It’s always a good feeling to read your stuff, honestly.

    • The experience was tiring – both the travel (I was at some very distant gaon so ended up being out of home for over 9 hours for a 2-hour test) and the actual paper (while the VARC was mostly smooth, the DILR seemed unnecessarily lengthy and with extra information thrown in just to make it difficult, without being genuinely wow or fun, and even the QA was pretty tedious/lengthy for the most part).

As for the score, I haven’t checked it yet (kinda on holiday!) but given that most of the scores I have seen posted online till now haven’t been that high, I am hoping for the best, as long as VARC does not forsake me! 🙂

Will try to post a few more for next year’s test, this year couldn’t think of much worth posting (and health too was a bit dicey) so decided to let it drift!

      regards
      J

      • Haha, that’s a relief to hear it from your end that even you found QA tedious, and DILR unnecessary lengthy. I was in Slot 3, and the DILR there was absolutely abominable. It was a bloodbath and even finding two sets to solve quickly in that section was considerably a challenge, only one set was a cakewalk. The scores posted by candidates indicate the same, CAT 2022 surprised candidates for real.

Wouldn’t want to spoil your holiday by making this text unnecessarily long, so here’s me wishing you the golden score and a good health for the year ahead. With Pagalguy being dead, it feels like a void to not hear from you, or read up your fun interactions on that forum. 😛

  4. After getting a raw 162 in CAT22, he becomes 12 times 100 Percentiler!!
Congratulations sir, for a “SKY- HIGH” performance. #skyisthelimit
    Also,wishing you a peaceful holiday(half-passed) with your books 😉
